Soviet-Indian Friendship and Collaboration

The construction of the Bokaro Steel Plant stands as a profound testament to Soviet-Indian friendship. While the project was envisioned with Swadeshi (indigenous) equipment at its core, the sheer scale required advanced technical expertise. The Soviet Union stepped in to provide critical financial and technical collaboration. Hundreds of Soviet engineers moved to Bokaro, establishing a township affectionately known as the 'Russian Hostel'. Together with Indian engineers and laborers, they executed one of the most remarkable industrial constructions of the 20th century.
